*Some trucks have engines with a different year model than the vehicle. Every engine should have a label with its year model.

In December 2010, the California Air Resources Board (CARB) made some big changes to diesel emissions rules for medium duty diesel trucks.

FORTUNATELY, THESE CHANGES SIGNIFICANTLY REDUCE THE BURDEN TO COMPLY WITH CARB’S DIESEL TRUCK AND BUS REGULATION.

Here is what you need to know:

  • Medium duty diesel trucks (14,001 – 26,000 lbs. Gross Vehicle Weight) will no longer need diesel particle filters installed.
  • Starting in 2015, most medium duty diesel trucks will eventually need to be replaced (i.e. not used in California) when their engines* become 20 years old. See the table below for specific replacement dates.
  • Diesel vehicles 14,000 lbs.GVW and under are not subject to any of these regulations.
  • Gas-powered vehicles are not subject to any of these regulations.
